Heidi did it, against all odds she is 10 years old today!
Today we are celebrating Heidi's 10th birthday.. It is a very special Birthday in the Berner world as any Berner reaching double digit age is defying the statistics!
For Heidi it is even more special as she is suffering from mast cell Cancer for a little over 2 years now.
In january 2016 I found a lump on Heidi's left hind leg
It was aspirated and during the aspiration it grew the size of a golf ball.
mast cell cancer was suspected.
A day later the lump was removed.
During the recovery she was very stressed by the cone and since stress is not a good thing in any healing process we decided to give her cloths.
She loved the cloths.
The week after the operation 2 new mast cell tumors popped up.
Her results came back as mastcell grade 1 with curative measures.
Well it was back and needle aspirate told us this.
I decided to not go the conventional route. I did not want to keep operating her to remove lumps. No chemo nor radiation (where there had popped up several all over her body). She was already on a raw diet (her whole life) and I wasn't going to change that either.
Within a month she went systemic, she was giving up. Major inflammatory reaction on her muzzle and in her lungs! she was coughing up tough mucus and she was giving up.. Conventional vet wanted her on pred because she was giving up but I refused.. we added benadryl and that was a disaster.
Because of some angels in my life she was put on a CBD oil with amazing result.
She got the munchies, extremely happy and started back eating.
Then, I went to see a holistic vet! I needed guidance on how to fine tune her diet!
In every cancer it is key to avoid as much carbohydrates, especially from grain and starches as possible: (carbs feed the cancer).
She is on an all meat, organ and bone diet. I add in about 15-25% brussels sprouts/broccoli/spinach/kale/pumpkin/spring leave etc as veggies..
She gets basel/parsley/feedsentials and essiac tea as herbal supplement.
Omega 3 oils in every meal:
Coconut/krill/hemp/phytoplankton/camelina and a bit of grizzly fish oil on a rotational basis (not the same everyday).
in her meals she gets beet juice, chlorophyll or spirulina or gensentials, and added digestive enzymes.( Right now Dr karen Becker pancreas support as she has a pancreatic attack a few months ago after the trauma of loosing her best bud. I have also used Gut Sense from Dr. Dobias). I have used onco support but had to stop because some ingredients are histamine provoking. Homeopathic vet really likes that blend though!
She was on quercetin with vit C to deter histamine production, in case of a flare up but we have since switched to Chlorpheniramine Maelate because it didn't do enough. Benadryl made her drowsy and I hated it.
She is still on colostrum, milk thistle for liver support and yes turmeric paste .
Homeopath added synergy for more antioxidant support. Micotaki mushroom blend for extra immune support
(I have backed off on this as mushrooms even though very healthy and cancer fighting probabilities they can also cause histamine production, and the homeopath added the cytokine drops.
She is loving all the extras in her food. At this point she is not getting everything all the time anymore but she gets everything at least a few times a week!
I avoid high omega 6 fatty meats (chicken) and histamine provoking foods (paleo hacks has a list). NO yogurt/kefir and all fermented foods we leave out..
She gets salmon and sardines, eggs but absolutely no legumes no soy no other carbs. Treats are liver.
She gets detoxed every 3-4 months with chlorophyll and milkthistle.
We use the calipers to keep a close eye on the progression of the histamine responses in her body as the tumors will go up and down in size with high or low histamines.
Heidi also gets a black muzzle from licking her chops too much (itchiness) and when we then up her antihistamine she is much more comfortable.
I hope this will inspire people to find that food can be very healing!
